  1. All of it sounds like great fun! There is something wonderful about sharing our customs with others, esp. if we get the Native American history right and make the case that giving thanks is a good thing to do. A little tangy cranberry sauce helps too.

As you know, the crowd at Tantur is global in character, so there were many questions from non-U.S. folks at the celebration about the origin of the Thanksgiving holiday, so we had plenty of opportunity to explain the true picture of the tragedies born of the arrival of Europeans to the Americas. Since my home is in Massachusetts, where the actual first Thanksgiving is purported to have occurred, I especially had the chance to explain why current-day Wampanoag hold a Day of Mourning on Thanksgiving.
